My name is David and I have a passion for working out. I have spent most of my youth and adult life as a tall scrawny person. (6'2' 170lb) In 1994 and again in 1998 I was diagnosed with hodgkins lymphoma. After 8 months of chemo and a stem cell transplant I was finally declared in remission. I spent the next five years waiting on pins and needles to see if it would return again. I worked out here and there and trying to stay in shape but really did not have much focus.
In 2004 my doctors declared my remission permanent and at that moment I decided it was time to improve myself. I went out bought some free weights and began working out at home. At first it was a set of 20lb dumbbells. I quickly found that those were not enough so I bought 40lb dumbbells. That quickly became not enough. I bought a bench, 300lb of weights, a heavy bag and a coupe of bars.
I was amazed at how my body started to respond to working out. The muscles grew and grew fast. I was still limited to the exercises I could do so when Golds Gym opened by my house I joined.
I have grown from 170-pound mousy guy to 215lb guy and keep growing. When I first measured my arms they were 15” at last measurements they were 18.5” I now work in a building with a gym in it so I go 4 days a week during lunch. I go 3 nights a week to golds with my son.
I love the way my body has grown and the reactions people have when they see me. When we go to clubs and some one approaches my wife to talk to her and she points me out I have actually had guys walk up to me and apologize for talking to her and want to be sure I am not angry. My wife now calls me her tough guy :) That adds to the desire to keep working out. |
